Privacy Policy
DevEye ("the extension") is a browser extension that lets users click on elements of a webpage, attach notes to them, and generate a structured Markdown or plain-text report describing those elements and the user's feedback.
What data DevEye collects
DevEye does not collect, transmit, sell, or share any personal data, browsing history, or page content with any server, company, or third party. There are no analytics, no tracking pixels, and no remote logging of any kind.
What data DevEye stores, and where
When you use DevEye, the following information is stored locally on your device
using the browser's built-in chrome.storage.local API:
- Annotations - the notes you create, the description and location of the element you clicked on (e.g. its DOM path, CSS classes, nearby text, computed styles), and the page path they belong to.
- Settings - your preferences such as theme, accent color, output detail level, and toolbar position.
This data:
- Never leaves your browser
- Is never transmitted to DevEye's developer or any third party
- Is not used for advertising, analytics, or tracking
- Is automatically pruned after 7 days by a local cleanup routine
Permissions
DevEye requests the following browser permissions, used solely to provide its core functionality:
- storage
- To save your annotations and settings locally.
- activeTab
- To communicate with the page you're currently viewing when you open the popup or toggle the toolbar.
- scripting
- To inject the annotation toolbar and overlay into the page you're viewing.
- alarms
- To periodically clean up annotations older than 7 days.
- host permissions (all sites)
- So the toolbar can be activated on any page you choose to annotate. DevEye only runs when you explicitly turn it on for that page - it does not run in the background or observe your browsing.
Third parties
DevEye does not integrate with, or send data to, any third-party service, analytics provider, or advertising network.
Changes to this policy
If this policy changes, the "Last updated" date above will be revised, and the updated policy will be published at this same URL.
